We publish practitioners, not generalists

SoftwareAdvisorHub is a software review publication built on hands-on testing and real-world experience. We don't publish generic "10 Best Tools" listicles written by freelance generalists. Every contributor must have genuine, verifiable experience using the software they write about. As a new publication, early contributors get prominent placement, author pages from day one, and the chance to shape our editorial direction.

We do not accept submissions from

Content marketing agencies writing on behalf of clients, freelance generalists without verifiable software experience, AI-generated articles without substantial human expertise layered in, or submissions where the author has a financial interest in the software being reviewed without full disclosure.

What we publish — and what we don't

Our editorial bar is high because our readers depend on us for honest, experienced guidance. Here's exactly what earns a yes and what gets declined.

✓  We Publish

  • In-depth software reviews based on 30+ days of hands-on use
  • Head-to-head comparisons of 2–3 tools with a clear verdict
  • Niche use-case guides ("Best CRM for freelancers under $50/month")
  • Migration or switching guides ("Moving from HubSpot to Pipedrive")
  • Expert opinion pieces on industry trends in specific software verticals
  • Practical tutorials and workflow guides for specific tools
  • Tool alternatives articles with genuine tested comparisons
  • First-person experience pieces with a clear point of view

✕  We Don't Publish

  • Generic "Top 10 Tools" listicles without real testing
  • Keyword-stuffed articles written for SEO bots, not readers
  • Purely promotional content for a specific vendor
  • Articles about tools the author hasn't actually used
  • Thin content under 1,500 words without substance
  • AI-generated articles without genuine expert layering
  • Duplicate content published elsewhere
  • Opinion pieces on general tech trends unrelated to software tools

Writing standards & style guide

All submissions must meet the following standards before we consider publication. Read these carefully before pitching — they save everyone time.

📏 Length & Structure

  • Minimum 1,500 words; most published pieces are 2,000–4,000 words
  • Use clear H2 and H3 headings that guide the reader logically through the piece
  • Include a TL;DR summary or key takeaways box near the top
  • Conclude with a clear verdict or recommendation — no "it depends" endings
  • Break up long paragraphs; aim for 3–4 sentences maximum per paragraph

✅ Accuracy & Evidence

  • All pricing must be verified at the time of submission — include a "verified on [date]" note
  • Screenshots from actual use of the software are strongly preferred over stock imagery
  • Factual claims must be supported by a primary source link (vendor documentation, official announcements)
  • Do not copy or closely paraphrase vendor marketing copy — use your own words based on experience
  • Disclose if you have received free or discounted access to the software you're reviewing

🎯 Tone & Voice

  • Write for a smart, time-pressed business professional — not a beginner and not a developer unless the piece is specifically technical
  • Be direct and specific. "The dashboard is slow to load" beats "the user experience could be improved"
  • Show your perspective — we want opinionated, experience-backed views, not neutral recaps
  • Avoid jargon unless it is standard in your professional field and your audience is that field
  • Active voice preferred. Concise over comprehensive.

🔗 Links & References

  • You may include one do-follow link in your author bio only — not within the article body
  • Outbound links in the article body must link to authoritative, relevant sources — not to your own properties or clients
  • Do not include affiliate links in your submission — we add our own where applicable
  • Internal links to other SoftwareAdvisorHub content are encouraged and will be added by our editors

🤖 AI & Originality

  • AI writing assistance is permitted for editing and polishing — not for generating the core content
  • All submissions are run through originality and AI detection tools before acceptance
  • Content must be original and not published elsewhere (in whole or in part)
  • If AI assistance was used, disclose this in your submission email

Common questions

Can I pitch an article about a tool I've never actually used?

No. We require genuine hands-on experience with every tool you write about. We verify this during our editorial review by checking for specificity, technical accuracy, and the kind of detail that only comes from real use. Articles that appear to be based on vendor marketing materials or surface-level research will be declined.

Can I write about a tool my employer makes or that I have a financial interest in?

You may pitch a tool you have a financial interest in, but you must disclose this fully in your pitch email. We will evaluate whether the conflict of interest can be managed transparently (e.g. a prominent disclosure in the article). Undisclosed conflicts of interest will result in permanent removal from our contributor programme.

Do you accept republished or syndicated content?

No. All submissions must be original and unpublished. We require a 6-month exclusivity window after publication — meaning you cannot republish the article elsewhere in substantially the same form for 6 months. After that, you retain ownership of your work and can use it elsewhere with attribution to SoftwareAdvisorHub.

Can I include a link to my own website or company in the article?

You receive one do-follow link in your author bio only. You may not include links to your own website, employer's website, or client websites within the article body itself. All outbound links in the article body must go to authoritative third-party sources relevant to the content.

How long does the editorial process take from pitch to publication?

On average, 3–5 weeks from accepted pitch to live publication. This includes editorial review (7 days), brief confirmation (2 days), your writing time (1–2 weeks), and our editing round (5–10 days). We can sometimes expedite for timely topics — mention this in your pitch if relevant.

What happens if my article is rejected after submission?

We do not pay kill fees for articles that don't meet our editorial standards after submission. This is why we strongly encourage pitching your idea first and getting written confirmation of acceptance before writing the full article. If your draft needs significant revision, we'll provide specific feedback and one opportunity to revise before making a final decision.

Can I become a regular contributor?

Yes — and we actively encourage it. As a new publication, we are especially keen to build long-term relationships with quality contributors. Regular contributors who maintain quality and meet deadlines are given priority for new topic slots and higher payment rates. After two accepted articles, you can apply for a retained contributor arrangement.

Do you accept pitches in languages other than English?

Currently, all content on SoftwareAdvisorHub is published in English only. We do accept pitches from non-native English speakers, but your submission must be in publication-ready English. If English is not your first language, we recommend working with a copy editor before submitting.
